Major Impact Grant Reception

September 14, 2025

On September 14th, the Wexford Foundation hosted a special reception to award $384,000 in major impact grants to five local charities.  The event, sponsored by Matt Shkor with The Phoenix Companies, was held at Lulu Kitchen where attendees enjoyed an array of marvelous appetizers and drinks as they heard first-hand how these deserving charities provide services that impact our community for the better.

The following recipients have all demonstrated a history of sound management and were selected after careful review of the projects they brought forth to the Foundation.

The Children’s Center – The Children’s Center grant will be used to upgrade their playground with new equipment and replace the old, worn-out surfacing with modern, impact-absorbing material. The playground is an integral part of the center’s facility and will positively impact many youths for years to come in the community.

Child Abuse Prevention Association (CAPA) – CAPA will receive funding to renovate their Open Arm’s Children’s Home. The grant will be used to purchase furniture, blinds and add a fresh coat of paint to create a warm nurturing environment for children. This transformation will improve the functionality, as well as the appearance of the Open Arm’s Children’s Home.

Second Helpings – The Second Helpings grant will be used to renovate their truck fleet with new e-tracks, custom crates, food scales, and battery boosts to make transporting food more efficient and safer. Three trucks will also be outfitted with a cooling curtain to further preserve perishable foods. These upgrades will vastly improve their ability to provide food to those that so desperately depend on it.

Hopeful Horizons – The grant to Hopeful Horizons will provide funding to upgrade their emergency domestic violence shelter in Beaufort. The interior repairs, replacements and addition will significantly improve living conditions for the shelter residents; revitalize the shelter’s atmosphere; and create more welcoming living spaces.

Volunteers in Medicine – Volunteers in Medicine of Hilton Head will receive funding to purchase two essential pieces of cutting-edge diagnostic ophthalmology equipment. This advanced vision care system provides high-resolution images to assist with early detection of visual impairments or blindness such as diabetic retinopathy, plus cancer, strokes and cardiovascular disease.

We are honored to partner with these amazing charities and be a part of their work to better our community! A special thanks to The Phoenix Companies, and Lulu Kitchen for graciously supporting this event.
